Schedule - Deutsche Oper Berlin
Premiere Talk: Nureyev
Ahead of the premiere of Nureyev, Staatsballett Berlin invites audiences to a public pre-premiere talk in the foyer of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Joined by members of the artistic team, the two principal performers in the title role and contemporary witnesses, the event offers insight into the making of this multi-layered production about one of the most influential figures in dance history.
At the heart of the discussion is the forthcoming Nureyev production: how is choreography shaped from biographical material? How do musical structures, dramatic focus and costume designs come into being? And how does a dancer approach a personality whose life and work continue to resonate to this day?
Taking part are choreographer Yuri Possokhov, composer Ilya Demutsky, costume designer Elena Zaytzeva and actor Odin Biron. Principal Dancers David Soares and Martin ten Kortenaar, who perform the role of Rudolf Nureyev, will speak about their physical and dramatic preparation for the part. The discussion will be complemented by reflections from members of the Staatsballett who worked with Nureyev and share their first-hand experiences, as well as contributions from director Kirill Serebrennikov.
The event will be moderated by Artistic Director Christian Spuck and dramaturge Katja Wiegand.
The talk will be held primarily in German. Contributions in English will be summarised in German for the audience.
