YDO for educators - Deutsche Oper Berlin

We develop offers with teachers, educators, trainee teachers and social workers.
Theatre is a place of exchange and encounter. The exchange with you as our most important partners is a central component of our work: What does school need, what does theatre need? Which forms of mediation do you need in your lessons, which plays are suitable for your pupils? And how can music and theatre be integrated into everyday school life as aesthetic and pedagogical design principles?

Would you like to attend one of our performances with a group or school class? Here you will find an overview of all works with age recommendations.

Would you like to book for a school group? Then use our group booking form!

How about a trip to the opera with your team or colleagues? We will organise your opera visit, including an introduction or workshop beforehand, as a special experience alongside your everyday work. For selected performances, you pay only € 20 per teacher or educator for admission. Dates can be arranged individually.

How can music and opera be integrated into everyday school and nursery life? What teaching formats are suitable for different contexts and age groups? In our training courses for teachers and educators, we engage in dialogue with you and provide insights into our methods of music theatre education.
We warmly welcome you to a performance at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. To ensure that your visit to the opera is an enjoyable experience for everyone, we kindly ask you to discuss the following information with your group before your visit:
What am I going to wear?
Whether you're wearing jeans or an evening gown, anything goes at the Deutsche Oper. If you want to make your visit to the opera a special experience by dressing up, you are more than welcome to do so. But if you're coming straight from school in jeans and a T-shirt, you're just as welcome.
Stretch out your legs!
We kindly ask you to leave jackets, backpacks and larger bags in the cloakroom to prevent tripping hazards in the auditorium.
I have to go to the toilet!
The toilets can be used before and after the performance and during the intervals. During the performance, going to the toilet would be extremely disruptive for other audience members. It is best to find out in advance if and when there will be an interval and let your group know.
Chips or caviar?
Before and after the performance, you are welcome to enjoy food and drinks in the foyers of the main stage. This is not permitted during the performance or in the foyer of the Tischlerei.
Where is my seat?
As adult accompanying persons, please sit in the middle of your group so that you can intervene in case of any disturbances.
Live music instead of music on your phone!
The Deutsche Oper Berlin is renowned for its fantastic acoustics. However, this also applies to noise from the auditorium. To ensure that all 1,850 visitors can concentrate fully on the action on stage, we ask everyone to remind their group to switch off mobile phones, beepers, etc. during the performance or to leave them at the cloakroom.
It‘s Selfie-time!
You and your group are welcome to take photos before or after the performance to remember your opera experience. Audio, photo and video recordings are not permitted during the performance.
